FAQs
What is the HOKA Postal Nationals?
Between the 1960s and the late 1980s, U.S. high school teams would run a 2-Mile on the track towards the end of cross country season. This included regional meets with numerous teams, local dual meets or just teams time trialing at their fittest. Schools would cumulate their top 5 fastest times from those competitions and “post” them via mail to Track and Field News. The magazine would compile the results and rank the top teams in the nation each year.
Since 2014, HOKA Postal Nationals has brought that tradition back with a series of affiliated events comprising races of 2-miles (or 3200m) on the track. Between August 20 and November 3, high school-aged teams form clubs to compete in a local event with multiple teams or as an intrasquad event against teammates. Clubs will add up their top five times and “post” them via the Postal Nationals website and compare their team with the best in the nation.
Who can compete in the HOKA National 2-Mile Postal Competition?
Anyone high school-aged eligible to compete for their high school team is eligible to run in a Postal Nationals event.
The team competition requires a minimum of five (5) athletes, but individuals are eligible to participate, but will not be included in the team leaderboard.
How does a team get registered?
In order to register, one must form a club by choosing a team name. For example, utilize your school's name or mascot and then adding XC Club is allowable or any creative way you want to name it. However, you may not use the initials HS, High School, School, or Academy in the Club name. This unsanctioned model is the same format utilized by New Balance Nationals and Nike Cross Nationals.
Where do I register my team? Between August 20 and November 3, visit www.hokapostalnationals.com where you can register your team and upload your results.
Can I post results for multiple teams?
Yes, we encourage multiple teams’ results including boys, girls, and all years in school.
Does my entire team need to compete in the same race?
No, however, the cumulated team times must all come from the same day of competition. For example, you cannot take one two-mile personal best from Sept 10 and then combine it with a group of times from Sept 20 to create a faster average time. ALL FIVE TIMES MUST BE FROM THE SAME DATE AND COMPETITION.
How do we upload local event or team time-trial results?
Return to www.hokapostalnationals.com and follow results “Posting” instructions.
When can we view results, when are the national champions crowned and what do we get?
Results will be updated every day throughout the Postal “Open Window” and can be found in the “RANKINGS” section of the HOKA Postal Nationals website. HOKA Postal National Champions will be crowned after the closing of the Postal window on November 3.
What is a Local Event?
Local events will take place all over the country from August 20 to November 3. Coaches, clubs, and schools will register at www.hokapostalnationals.com to host a Local Postal Event in their region. See a list of local events HERE.
Are individuals allowed to run?
Yes, individuals may participate. Your result will be posted to the site by the meet host but will not be listed on the overall results leaderboard (the leaderboard is set up for teams only).
How do I host a Local Postal Event?
It is as simple as challenging local schools to participate in a track 2-mile or 3200m event at your school. Send us the info of your local event by filling out this form and we’ll add it to our calendar. See a list of local events HERE.
What are the prizes? There are numerous incentives.
1) Free shoes. Every coach that submits team results will receive a free pair of HOKA shoes.
2) Pride. Your team versus the country, your state, or your local rivals. Post your best.
